So, if you are looking for a game of golf in the Manchester area, there are 70 or so courses in the locale and here’s a rundown on some of our favourite golf venues.
Manchester Golf Club
Located north of the city in Middleton, Manchester Golf Club is set in 240 acres of terrific Mancunian countryside. Founded in 1882, the club has hosted a number of prestige events over the years. It is a predominantly moorland course, with areas of heathland and parkland for good measure. You might even spot a deer or two during your round!

Withington Golf Club
Visiting players will get their money’s worth at Withington. Nestling in the Mersey Valley, with abundant tree-lined fairways and welcoming greens, Withington is rightly considered to be one of the best courses throughout Manchester and the wider Cheshire catchment area. It isn’t overly long at around 6400 yards, but it offers a true test to low and high handicappers alike, with good practice facilities to boot.

Denton Golf Club
Handily located east of Manchester city centre, with good motorway links, Denton isn’t the longest of courses, but its clever layout ensures that it isn’t just a point and shoot affair for big hitters. Dog legs abound, which means there are often several options as to how you play each hole.
Worsley Golf Club
Founded in the late 19th century and redesigned by the legendary James Braid in the 1930s, Worsley is wonderfully mature course, appreciated by all standards of player. Featuring scenic parkland and tree-lined fairways, it’s a golfing delight, set a little over five miles from Manchester city centre.
North Manchester Golf Club
A typically challenging parkland course, which plays to its natural surroundings. That means you’ll encounter a fair number of tricky tree lined fairways and more than one water hazard. If that’s your idea of golf heaven, you’ll love this course!

Worsley Park Golf Club
A recently constructed championship golf course, this has quickly become renowned as one of the top courses in England’s north-west. Consistently kept in an immaculate condition, it has greens built to USGA specifications – and length to match! With a great driving range, short game practice area and an extensive number of practice putting greens, playing at Worsley Park offers a top level golfing experience.

Sale Golf Club
An undulating 6,500-yard course off the back tees, Sale offers a proper test for all levels of player, especially when the terrain has been subject to inclement weather and the ball doesn’t run quite as far.
Located next to Trafford Water Sports Centre in the south of Manchester, the course has some wickedly sited bunkers, water hazards and sloping greens, so you really need to think your way round – which is what golf should always be about!
Stockport Golf Club
Another one of Manchester’s top courses, Stockport Golf Club, to the south of the city, is in a lovely tree lined parkland setting. This well-maintained course is a fair test of golf with a nice spread of undulating fairways, large greens and cutely placed hazards. And if you appreciate tradition, you’ll love the clubhouse.

Ellesmere Golf Club
A magnificent parkland course which, despite its relatively short 6300 yards, is still a great test of golf. Boasting many mature trees, offering the fairways adequate protection, along with some cleverly sited water, you need to have your wits about you around here. Mind you, the club’s great practice facilities should prepare you for what lies ahead.
Dunham Forest Golf Club
Although it’s located in Cheshire, it’s still close enough to be considered a Manchester course. And a superb one at that! Set in splendid countryside, with plenty of challenging tree-lined fairways and well protected greens, you need to be careful as you plot your way around – otherwise it could be “lost ball” time!
