Buy practice gear suited to your game, not whatever the golfing algorithms have made viral that week. If your swing path is the issue, a simple tool such as The Swing Plate will beat plenty of more complicated gadgets out there. If tempo is the issue, check out the Swing Speed Radar with Tempo tracking. Think about your weaknesses and focus on those, rather than building a generic training routine.
When choosing a golf training aid, consider the format of the feedback. The best training aids quickly tell or show you whether what you did was right. A tool that gives you that immediate yes/no feedback is the fastest way to work on your technique. Think about a strike aid like the Divot Board, or a narrow Putting Gate - both make errors obvious so that you can react accordingly.
If it takes ages to build or set up, you will be less inclined to use your practice gear. If possible, go for tool-free, indoor-friendly equipment you can leave out or stash in seconds. A roll-up putting mat is a great example, which you can use on the fly to turn spare minutes into real reps.
The best golf training aids push you to improve with progression of some kind. Putting gates that narrow, stick angles that change, targets that shrink. Progression keeps practice honest and gives you something to strive for.
When practising your swing, it’s important to pair feel with visuals. A simple slow-motion camera or even your phone on a tripod can give instant side-by-side before/after shots. Ten swings with visual feedback beat a hundred blind ones!
Your joints and muscles will feel the effects of high-intensity practice. So invest in gear that makes the process as kind to your body as possible. A softer, wrist-friendly mat turns 20 balls into 60 without the ache. Comfort isn’t a luxury - it’s how you rack up enough reps for positive changes to stick.
Your golf training aids should work well with your environment, in terms of how much space they take up and how much noise they make. It goes without saying that quiet wins indoors. A roll-out putting mat and a Visio putting laser for alignment practice are two great examples of a near-silent indoor practice setup that you can use at any time of day.
A strike training mat might be better suited to working outdoors and at a time when you’re willing to make plenty of noise.
Try and pick golf training aids that slot neatly into your set-up: they should work with your net/mat and not block camera or launch-monitor sight lines. It’s also a good idea to use products with built-in guidance (QR code drills or app programmes) so you know exactly how to use them from day one.
Turn those three putts into tap-ins with our recommended putting training aids. The smartest putting aids give you instant yes/no feedback on your start line, pace, and green reading - the trio that decides whether the ball ever has a chance.
Our golf swing training aids give instant, feedback on your path/plane, strike/low point, face control and tempo/speed, so you can groove changes at home, in the garden or down the range. Think simple lanes for a better takeaway and downswing, honest strike boards that tell the truth, and tempo/speed tools that help you build pace without wrecking technique.
Start with the foundations and everything else will fall into place. The products below are all about grip, weight transfer, and swing tempo. Nail these and your face control, strike and consistency will improve. This is what you need to lock in hand placement, feel a proper load-and-shift, and work on your swing tempo.
