Why Choose GolfBays for Putting Mats and Putting Aids?

We don’t just sell putting mats, we develop them too. Our team tests, compares, and hand-picks every product in the putting mats and putting aids below, making sure each one delivers true roll, reliable Stimp speeds, and long-term durability.

If it’s on this page, it’s here for because...

- It rolls realistically.

- It lasts.

- It helps golfers build putting confidence and consistency.

We cut through the noise so you don’t have to. Whether you want a simple roll-out for weekday reps or a premium turf green for a full sim room, look no further.

Putting Mats for Every Golfer

Our putting mats are designed to roll flat straight out of the box, deliver dependable Stimp speeds, and give you instant feedback on start-line, pace control, and strike. From compact roll-up designs you can store under the sofa, to premium multi-hole greens for serious practice, every option here helps you build confidence from inside six feet and beyond.

What is a Putting Mat?

A putting mat is a portable practice surface designed to mimic the roll, pace, and feel of a real green. It lets you work on start-line, speed control, and short-putt consistency at home, in the office, or inside a simulator setup. A good mat delivers a smooth, predictable roll and lies flat without creases or ridges.

What makes a Good Putting Mat?

  • True roll – the ball shouldn’t wobble, skid, or jump. You want to replicate a pro green.

  • Consistent Stimp speed – not too slow, not too quick, and ideally close to the greens you usually play on.

  • Durability – high-quality turf fibres that won’t fluff, fray, or compress over time.

Bonus points for mats with alignment guides, multiple hole options, an adjustable break, and easy storage (if you’re into any of that).

Putting Mat Maintenance Tips

  • Keep the surface clean with a quick brush or a low-setting vacuum to remove dust and fibres that disrupt roll.
  • If you’ve got a roll-up mat, store it loosely rather than in a tight coil to prevent creases.
  • For thicker turf greens, give the fibres an occasional light brush against the grain to keep them upright and the pace consistent.
  • If you notice ripples or curled edges, reverse-roll the mat for a few minutes or place something flat on top to reset it.
  • Avoid damp areas and prolonged direct sunlight, as moisture and heat can warp the backing.
  • With basic upkeep, your mat will stay true, consistent, and ready for reliable practice year after year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Want 1-to-1 advice?

A good putting mat is one of the most effective training tools you can own. The reason is simple: most putting misses stem from your start line, face angle, and pacing within ten feet or so. These are exactly the skills a mat isolates. PGA coaches often recommend structured mat practice because it helps you build a repeatable stroke without course conditions getting in the way. A mat won’t replace long-range pace work or real-world green-reading, but for sharpening mechanics and honing your short-putt confidence, it’s spot on.

Usually, yes. Premium indoor greens use thicker turf and heavier bases, which stay flatter, roll truer, and hold up better over time. If you’re practising several times a week or setting up a semi-permanent bay, the upgrade is noticeable. If you only roll a few putts now and then, a well-made roll-up mat will still get the job done. It comes down to frequency, realism, and longevity. You might also want to consider something like the PuttOut AirBreak mat, which offers hundreds of slope combinations by using pumps to raise and lower the flexible base. Plus, made putts are returned to your feet by a battery-powered automatic ball returner - Fancy!

Focus on five things:

  • Roll quality: Dense, tightly-woven turf gives you a truer roll and won’t develop grooves or tracks.
  • Speed: Look for mats that replicate medium to fast greens. This will help your stroke practice transfer straight to the course.
  • Length & space: Around 8-12 feet works for most indoor setups. Long enough to be useful, short enough to fit comfortably.
  • Backing thickness: A stable backing keeps the mat flat and smooth, especially on carpet or uneven floors.
  • Printed guides: Lines, checkpoints, and targets turn your practice into meaningful, structured drills.

You can, but the backing matters. Thin mats reveal every dip and wobble in your carpet, which affects your roll and practice.

Match the tool to the fault:

  • Start-line issues: Use a gate or narrow target.
  • Set-up consistency: A putting mirror keeps your eyes, shoulders, and face alignment in check.
  • Stroke path: Arc trainers or simple path guides help you groove a shape you can repeat.

It can replace a huge amount of the technical work. A mat is ideal for face control, start line, and short-putt confidence because it removes wind, grass grain, spike marks, and distractions. What it can’t offer is long-range lag putting or varied green-reading. Think of your putting mat as a home workshop for mechanics - and your real greens as the proving ground.

Keep it simple and focused:

  1. Start-line (5–7 minutes): Use a gate and track how many putts pass cleanly.
  2. Pace (5–7 minutes): Putt to set distances or marked zones, aiming to finish just past the hole.
  3. Pressure (3–5 minutes): Set a challenge - for example, Hole 8 out of 10 from 5 feet. Miss one? Start over.

Both work - it depends on how you learn.

  • Tech tools are great if you want data, structure, and gamified practice. They keep you honest and show measurable progress.
  • Simple trainers (mirrors, gates) are incredibly effective and often all you need. Many coaches still prefer them because they deliver clear, instant feedback.

If you’re unsure, start low-tech and upgrade once you know how you practise best.

Putting mirrors, alignment gates, and practice greens are among the most effective. Mirrors help you check eye position and putter face alignment, while gates improve stroke accuracy. Quality putting mats with realistic speed let you practise distance control and build confidence before your next round.

They work because they standardise eye position, shoulder line and shaft lean, so you start the ball on line and work on that muscle memory. Pair putting mirror with a start-line gate for rapid feedback.

Just Installed this new Pro+ screen at my commercial golf simulator. The difference between the old one and this new one is astounding. Not only is it much quieter but the image projection is so much more clearer. It is installed quite tightly using the Bungee balls but there is no significant bounce back.I unequivocally recommend the Pro + impact screen.

Weather is no longer a problem for me, I can be in my garage and on the 7th at Augusta at the same time!

The golf team enjoys practicing with the Puttout training mat. More practice means better putting on the course. The quality of the product is excellent.

I already had a large gym in my house, however, I wanted to start practicing my golf at home as well as getting fitter. I didn't want a built in option so the simbox enclosure was the perfect solution. It allowed me to place it wherever I wanted in my room which was a bonus as I couldn't have it against a wall. The quality of the simbox is second to none, I went for the Close Knit Baffle screen as I wanted the most durable screen for the amount of practice I do, it is also super quiet which is a bonus. I can't thanks the team at Golfbays enough, all of the guys are super knowledgeable, you can tell they all have golfing backgrounds. I would definitely recommend.

This is an exceptional machine with fast delivery and outstanding customer service from Golf Bays. It’s my second purchase from Golf Bays, they deliver top marks all the time and I would highly recommend!

Jonathan

Solid net strong enough for practicing driver and every other club in the bag. Return slope very handy saving you having to collect balls, they roll straight back to your feet.Recommend also buying some heavy duty ground anchors or pegs to secure it if used in garden.

Liam

Fantastic quality, easy to install and fast delivery. Could not ask for much more. We also purchased a projector and protective enclosure that are brilliant. Creates a very professional looking set up.

Luke M.

Great quality, easy to assemble was hitting balls within hours of delivery which was within 48hrs. Require a few more items to complete the perfect room. Will use again.

Mark W

The box was delivered very quickly including customs clearance, perfect. The SimBox exceeded my expectations, black ball protection very noise-insulating, Impact Screen Pro+ very good for Full HD.Thanks to the video tutorial, it can also be set up alone, but much more relaxed with two people.Simply perfect, highly recommended, thanks to the 6 sizes there is always a place at home, as long as the room height fits.Very convincing qualityIn short: brilliant for the home simulator

Markus K.

Nice and easy to get set up. A few minor issues with software but easily sorted with a quick call to the team at golfbays. I recommend TGC2019 for game play. Not tried Skytraks own courses but I believe they are good.

Peter H

Happy with the quality of the turf and would highly recommend to others.
